There are lots of things I'm good at. I'm good at baking, styling hair, and making crafts among other things. However, I've learned that those aren't skills that I want to share with people all the time. I like to do those things when I want to, not when other people want me to. I know that sounds a little crazy, but it's the truth.
Here, let me paint a better picture of what I mean:
A while back I started a business called BK Indulge. I was a cupcake/cakepop making machine! Every weekend I was baking something. I paid to have a logo made, started a website and even started the process of looking for a store location. Several months into it, I no longer enjoyed it. I started to decline customer orders, took down my website and threw away my apron. Baking was something that I enjoyed doing occasionally. Doing it on demand took the joy away.
On the other hand, I enjoy sharing information - All the Time! That's why I love blogging so much! It allows me to share information, do research and network with people. When I'm writing a piece or creating a YouTube video I enjoy every moment of it. That's how I know teaching is one of my passions! Not in the formal sense - as in having a classroom and students - but in the sense that I'm allowed to use those same skills to share, help, empower or motivate people.
To me, there is so much power in knowing the difference between your hobbies and your passions. Understanding this has allowed me to think differently about my goals and the vision I have for my life.
Now it's your turn...
What are your hobbies? Passions? Do you know the difference between the two? What are the things you enjoy doing occasionally? What do you enjoy doing every single day? You don't necessarily have to share them down below, but think about it.
