In a few days, I’m going to begin the JJ Smith 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse. For lots of people this cleanse is about weight loss, for me it’s about detoxification and leading a healthier lifestyle. In chapter one of Smith’s book, she has a quick assessment called: “Do You Need to Detox/Cleanse?” I scored a 22, which means that I would significantly benefit from detoxifying my body.
Before taking this quiz, I knew my body needed to be cleansed. I rarely sleep at night; I’ve been breaking out and having frequent headaches. On top of this, my eating habits are that of a teenager. I drink lots of juice and soda, junk food is a major food group for me and I eat processed food at least twice a week. Oh, and full disclosure, my poop game is off. (TMI…I know)
Over the years I’ve tried to eat healthy, but I’ve been mostly unsuccessful because the way I eat has never bothered me physically. But as of lately, the way I eat is showing up all over me. My skin has lost its glow, my double chin is becoming more apparent and walking up the stairs to my fourth floor apartment is like running a marathon! In a nutshell, I don’t like the way I look and feel and I want to change that.
I chose the 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse because I felt I could be the most successful at it. Green smoothies are very familiar to me. I like their taste and have supplemented my breakfast with them in the past. They are easy to make and the ingredients are accessible and affordable. Also, outside of drinking smoothies, the cleanse allows you to eat raw fruit and veggies, nuts, hard boiled eggs and seeds-all things that I love. Of course you eat these things in moderation, but I appreciate that I can still have access to things I like.
I made the decision to complete this cleanse during a time that I have vacation from work. Being home, I’m less distracted and I have easier access to my blender and bathroom. The cleanse suggests that you drink tea and at least 64ozs of water daily. It’s not realistic for me to drink that much water throughout the workday; bathroom breaks are limited when you’re a teacher. Also, the cleanse is going to increase the amount of times I poop. I don’t know about you, but I like to sit comfortably at home to handle that type of business.
Overall, I’m excited about starting the cleanse. I’ve done a lot of preparation and I have some friends that are joining me so we can be a support system for one another. After the cleanse, I’m looking forward to clearer skin, having more energy and leading a healthier lifestyle. If my double chin disappears, that will be a plus too.
Have you ever done a cleanse? Thinking about doing one? I would love to hear about your experience.
